Šajn families are Croats and they are mostly from Djurdjevac area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Djurdjevac area and in Ogulin.
Prevalence
About 260 people with faimily name Šajn live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 140 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 90 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Pitomaca in Djurdjevac area (110), Donji Vidovec in Prelog area (25), Zagreb (20), Ogulin (20), and in Kladare in Djurdjevac area (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
