In Croatia, Sain families are predominantly Croats (from Novigrad ), rarely Italians (also from Novigrad ), and very rarely Slovenes (again from Novigrad ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and in Slovenia. U Gradu Novigradu every tenth inhabitant had the family name Sain.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Sain live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are only located in in 7 Croatian cities and 7 other places, mostly in Novigrad (20), Porec (<10), Kucer in Jastrebarsko area (<10), Pula (<10), and in Karlovac (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
