Petrić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. According to some sources they are from Ludbreg area, very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In places Selca kod Starog Grada and Velo Grablje on the Island of Hvar every third inhabitant had the family name Petrić.
Prevalence
About 2700 people with faimily name Petrić live in Croatia today, in 1100 households. There were 2700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 82 cities and 236 other places, mostly in Zagreb (390), Split (200), Karlovac (130), Zadar (130), and in Stari Grad on the Island of Hvar (85).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1571 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
