Surname Kuruc in modern Croatia

Kuruc families are often Croats and they are mostly from Koprivnica area and according to some sources from Hungary and Legrad , less frequently Hungarians (from Osijek area ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and in Backa, Vojvodina. In Vidovo Selo in Western Bosnia every fifth inhabitant had the family name Kuruc.

Prevalence

About 190 people with faimily name Kuruc live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 230 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 24 cities and 32 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Osijek (20), Beli Manastir (10), Vinkovci (<10), and in Lug in Osijek area (<10).

Outside Croatia

At least seven families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to Australia (5) and the United States (2).
