Žigić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Korenica area , whereas often Croats (Nasice area). According to some sources they are from Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Otocac area. In Tuk Bjelopoljski in Otocac area nearly every inhabitant had the family name Žigić.
Prevalence
About 420 people with faimily name Žigić live in Croatia today, in 200 households. There were 680 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 37 cities and 50 other places, mostly in Zagreb (120), Korenica in Otocac area (40), Donja Moticina in Nasice area (25), Rijeka (15), and in Bosnjaci in Zupanja area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
