Čiča families can be both Croats (the family name originates from middle Bosnia ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Glina area and in Middle Bosnia (Kresevo area). In Kojsina in Middle Bosnia every sixth inhabitant had the family name Čiča.
Prevalence
About 250 people with faimily name Čiča live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 430 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 38 other places, mostly in Zagreb (30), Rijeka (15), Markusica in Vinkovci area (15), Malicka in Glina area (10), and in Sisak (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1678 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
