Vajda families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Ivanic-Grad area. According to some sources they are from Varazdin and Hungary, rarely Hungarians (Osijek area) and Slovenes. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Zagreb. In Mala Paka in Ozalj area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Vajda.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Vajda live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 260 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 23 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Osijek (45), Lug in Osijek area (10), Cakovec (<10), and in Slatina (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1750 in source 18th Century Census.
