In Croatia, Sefer families are mainly Croats (from Djurdjevac area ), less frequently Bosniaks (from Middle Bosnia ), and very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area) and in Slovenia. In Seferi in Middle Bosnia every second inhabitant had the family name Sefer.
Prevalence
About 30 people with faimily name Sefer live in Croatia today, in 11 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 6 cities and threee other places, mostly in Pula (<10), Podstrana in Solin area (<10), Zagreb (<5), Molve in Djurdjevac area (<5), and in Sisak (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
