Rota families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Biograd na Moru area , often Italians (from Umag ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Slovenia and in Umag. In Kanegra in Buje nearly every inhabitant had the family name Rota.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Rota live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are only located in in 10 Croatian cities and 9 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Turanj in Biograd na moru area (<10), Umag (<10), Split (<10), and in Rijeka (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1927 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
