Racan families are Croats and they are mostly from Labin area (Rezanci). According to some sources they originate from France. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and in Labin area.
Prevalence
About 120 people with faimily name Racan live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are only located in in 7 Croatian cities and 12 other places, mostly in Pula (40), Rezanci in Labin area (25), Fazana (15), Vodnjan in Pula area (10), and in Rovinj (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1931 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
