Piljan families are Croats and they are mostly from Pula. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and in Labin area.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Piljan live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are only located in in one Croatian city and 7 other places, mostly in Pula (30), Bokordici in Labin area (20), Fazana (10), and in Bibici (<10) and Svetvincenat (<5) in Labin area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
