Oreščanin families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Glina area , whereas often Croats (from Karlovac ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Glina area and in Zagreb. In places Pecka and Perna in Glina area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Oreščanin.

About 240 people with faimily name Oreščanin live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 31 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Vukovar (30), Karlovac (20), and in Perna (15) and Blatusa (15) in Glina area.
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: the United States (1), Austria (1), and to Sweden (1). Family name Oreščanin is present in two countries on two continents. The family name "Orescanin " is used by small number of people in the United States.
