Mađar families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Lepoglava , less frequently Hungarians (from Backa, Vojvodina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Lepoglava. In Očura in Lepoglava every eighth inhabitant had the family name Mađar.
Prevalence
About 290 people with faimily name Mađar live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 34 cities and 45 other places, mostly in Zagreb (30), Lepoglava (15), Ocura (15), Batina in Beli Manastir area (15), and in Osijek (10).
