Marčić families are often Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Kakanj area) and in Sibenik. In Lučići in Middle Bosnia every second inhabitant had the family name Marčić.
Prevalence
About 550 people with faimily name Marčić live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 430 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 31 cities and 49 other places, mostly in Sibenik (80), Split (70), Zagreb (35), Gornji Humac on the Island of Brac (25), and in Viskovo in Rijeka area (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1606 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
