In Croatia, Market families are Croats (from the Island of Mljet ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Mljet and in Dubrovnik. In Babino Polje on the Island of Mljet every tenth inhabitant had the family name Market.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Market live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in threee Croatian counties, threee cities and 6 other places, mostly in Babino Polje on the Island of Mljet (25), Zagreb (15), Polace on the Island of Mljet (10), Potomje on the Peljesac peninsula (<10), and in Nova Mokosica (<5).
