In Croatia, Marchi families are generally Croats (from Split ), rarely Italians (from Pula ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Pula. In Markovići in Buje area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Marchi.
Prevalence
About 10 people with faimily name Marchi live in Croatia today, in five households only. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in three Croatian cities only: in Split (<10), Crikvenica (<5), and in Pula (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over two hundred times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
