Madžar families are often Croats and they are mostly from Drnis area , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Western Bosnia (Livno area) and in Knin. In Ostrogašica in Drnis area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Madžar.
Prevalence
About 360 people with faimily name Madžar live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 230 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 31 cities and 35 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Kastel Luksic (25), Split (25), Sibenik (15), and in Slavonski Brod (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1930 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
