Lukić families are often Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina. According to some sources they are from Velebit mountain area or Benkovac area (Lukici), and rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Brcko area) and in Middle Bosnia (Kakanj area). In places Strupina , Klanac and Suha in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Lukić.
Prevalence
About 4700 people with faimily name Lukić live in Croatia today, in 2000 households. There were 3000 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 103 cities and 449 other places, mostly in Zagreb (785), Rijeka (200), Osijek (195), Slavonski Brod (130), and in Borovo in Vukovar area (120).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1516 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
