Lučić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia (Bugojno, Gracanica). According to some sources they are from Neretvanska krajine, very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Brcko area) and in Middle Bosnia (Jajce area). In places Seoci , Vesela and Velika Bukovica in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Lučić.
Prevalence
About 3800 people with faimily name Lučić live in Croatia today, in 1600 households. There were 1900 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 90 cities and 333 other places, mostly in Zagreb (530), Split (175), Sikirevci in Zupanja area (140), Rijeka (120), and in Dubrovnik (110).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1729 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
