Lukač families are often Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina , rarely Serbs and Hungarians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Western Bosnia (Tomislavgrad area). In Liskovača in Western Bosnia every second inhabitant had the family name Lukač.
Prevalence
About 1400 people with faimily name Lukač live in Croatia today, in 590 households. There were 990 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 63 cities and 151 other places, mostly in Zagreb (375), Osijek (60), Sesvete (60), Slavonski Samac in Zupanja area (50), and in Split (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1683 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
