In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik area and in East Herzegovina (Bileca area). In Miruše in East Herzegovina every third inhabitant had the family name Komnenić.

They are located in four Croatian counties, four cities and 8 other places, mostly in Dubrovnik (<10), in Cilipi (<10) and Radovcici (<5) in Dubrovnik area, Velika Gorica (<5), and in Nova Mokosica (<5).
