In Croatia, Kesar families are predominantly Croats (from Nova Gradiska area ), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosnian Krajina (Prijedor area) and in Nova Gradiska area. In Marini in Bosnian Krajina every tenth inhabitant had the family name Kesar.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Kesar live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 6 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Rijeka (15), Gornji Bogicevci in Nova Gradiska area (<10), Sibinj in Slavonski Brod area (<5), and in Virovitica (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
