Cesar families are Croats and they are mostly from Varazdin area. According to some sources they are from Novi Marof area (Jelenscak), rarely Slovenes. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Varazdin. In Obedišće Ježevsko in Dugo Selo area every second inhabitant had the family name Cesar.
Prevalence
About 580 people with faimily name Cesar live in Croatia today, in 250 households. There were 680 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 30 cities and 63 other places, mostly in Zagreb (185), Varazdin (30), Dugo Selo (30), and in Sveti Ilija (30) and Beletinec (20) in Varazdin area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
