Hrvat families are Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Krajina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosnian Krajina (Prijedor area) and in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Sanski Most area).
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Hrvat live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 24 cities and 37 other places, mostly in Zagreb (40), Novska (25), Labin (15), Babina Greda in Zupanja area (10), and in Sisak (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over four hundred times, the first time 1669 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
