Hrnjak families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Ozalj , also Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Doboj, Bosnia (Doboj area). In Brašljevica in Ozalj every fourth inhabitant had the family name Hrnjak.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Hrnjak live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 270 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 21 cities and 21 other places, mostly in Zagreb (100), Bunic in Obrovac area (15), Sesvete (10), Karlovac (10), and in Velika Gorica (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
