Fijan families are Croats and they are mostly from Zapresic area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Zapresic area. In Jakovlje in Zapresic area every sixtieth inhabitant had the family name Fijan.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Fijan live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 270 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Zagreb (80), Jakovlje in Zapresic area (50), Sisak (15), Josipovo in Slatina area (<10), and in Gornji Kraljevec in Novi Marof area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
