Fijan families are Croats and they are mostly from Zapresic area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Zapresic area. In Jakovlje in Zapresic area every sixtieth inhabitant had the family name Fijan.

The family name "Fijan " is used by some 100 people in Iran , about 100 in the Netherlands , and some 60 people in the United States. "Philyan " is used by few people in the United States.
