Erić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Valpovo area. According to some sources they are from Boksis near Nasice, Eric near Perusic, or Herzegovina, but often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area) and in Osijek. In Tumare in Tuzla Region (Bosnia) every third inhabitant had the family name Erić.
Prevalence
About 400 people with faimily name Erić live in Croatia today, in 170 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 36 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Borovo in Vukovar area (65), Bizovac in Valpovo area (50), Markusica in Vinkovci area (30), and in Vukovar (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
