Carić families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and on the Island of Hvar. In Svirče on the Island of Hvar every third inhabitant had the family name Carić.
Prevalence
About 620 people with faimily name Carić live in Croatia today, in 290 households. There were 870 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 39 cities and 59 other places, mostly in Svirce on the Island of Hvar (120), Zagreb (85), Split (45), and in Stari Grad (45) and Hvar (35) on the Island of Hvar.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
