Zarić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Pleternica area , whereas often Croats (also from Pleternica area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pleternica area and in Pozega. In Stara Ljeskovica in Pleternica area every second inhabitant had the family name Zarić.
Prevalence
About 240 people with faimily name Zarić live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 280 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 33 cities and 37 other places, mostly in Borovo in Vukovar area (20), Zagreb (20), Slavonski Brod (15), Osijek (10), and in Pozega (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
