Banko families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Pazin area , rarely Italians (from Pula ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and Porec. In Banki in Porec nearly every inhabitant had the family name Banko.
Prevalence
About 380 people with faimily name Banko live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 42 other places, mostly in Pula (60), Banki (55), Porec (40), Rovinj (30), and in Kanfanar in Rovinj area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1930 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
