Banić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Varazdin area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Otocac. In Predošćica on the Island of Cres every second inhabitant had the family name Banić.
Prevalence
About 1700 people with faimily name Banić live in Croatia today, in 690 households. There were 1700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 66 cities and 148 other places, mostly in Zagreb (330), Split (115), Zadar (80), Covici (55), and in Rijeka (55).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
