Čelić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Pula , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and Zadar. In Trnovo in Bosnian Krajina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Čelić.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Čelić live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Pula (30), Zagreb (15), Tovarnik in Ilok area (15), Gornji Stupnik in Samobor area (<10), and in Zadar (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
