Žilić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , barely Serbs and Bosniaks (iz Doboj area, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area) and in Zadar. In places Đelilovac and Dobretići in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Žilić.

They are located in all Croatian counties, in 68 cities and 123 other places, mostly in Zagreb (155), Zadar (85), Brisevo in Zadar area (50), Skabrnja in Biograd na moru area (50), in Rijeka (45) and in Ogulin.
