Žilić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , barely Serbs and Bosniaks (iz Doboj area, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area) and in Zadar. In places Đelilovac and Dobretići in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Žilić.
Prevalence
About 1400 people with faimily name Žilić live in Croatia today, in 550 households. There were 750 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 68 cities and 123 other places, mostly in Zagreb (155), Zadar (85), Brisevo in Zadar area (50), Skabrnja in Biograd na moru area (50), in Rijeka (45) and in Ogulin.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
