Žakula families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Otocac area , whereas often Croats (from Belisce area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Otocac and in Otocac area. In Vrpile in Otocac area every second inhabitant had the family name Žakula.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Žakula live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 390 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 23 other places, mostly in Rijeka (35), Zagreb (20), Karlovac (15), Vrpile in Otocac area (10), and in Vinkovci (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
