Švarc families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Ivanic-Grad area , rarely Czechs (from Garesnica area ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Varazdin.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Švarc live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 360 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 27 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Zagreb (60), Varazdin (15), Sisak (15), Dubrovnik (10), and in Koprivnica (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
