In Croatia, Šumar families are predominantly Croats (from Garesnica ), rarely Serbs, and barely Bosniaks (from Rijeka ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Cazin area) and in Zagreb. In Vodica in Bosnian Krajina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Šumar.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Šumar live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 40 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 8 cities and 6 other places, mostly in Rijeka (<10), Zagreb (<10), Karlovac (<10), Kapelica (<10), and in Kutina (<10).
