Šukunda families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Glina , but often Croats. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Glina and in Hrvatska Kostajnica area.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Šukunda live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 140 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Zagreb (10), Jagodnjak in Beli Manastir area (10), Sisak (<10), Petrinja (<10), and in Donji Miholjac (<10).
Outside Croatia
Family name Šukunda is present in two countries on two continents. The family name "Sukunda " is used by small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
