In Croatia, Šukman families are predominantly Croats (from Hrvatska Kostajnica ), rarely Bosniaks (from Zupanja area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bjelovar and Garesnica. In Baćina in North Herzegovina nearly every inhabitant had the family name Šukman.
Prevalence
Only a few people with faimily name Šukman live in Croatia today, in four households only. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in only four naselja i to in Garesnica (<5), Garesnicki Brestovac (<5), Hrvatska Kostajnica (<5), and in Slavonski Samac in Zupanja area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
