Šolaja families are often Croats and they are mostly from Bosanske krajine , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosnian Krajina (Prijedor area) and in Zagreb. In Donji Volar in Bosnian Krajina every ninth inhabitant had the family name Šolaja.
Prevalence
About 430 people with faimily name Šolaja live in Croatia today, in 200 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 42 cities and 61 other places, mostly in Zagreb (90), Sisak (30), Petrinja (30), Rijeka (20), and in Posavski Podgajci in Zupanja area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
