Šola families are Croats and they are mostly from east Herzegovina. According to some sources they are from Zadar area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in East Herzegovina (Bileca area) and in Zagreb. In Prisoje in East Herzegovina every ninth inhabitant had the family name Šola.
Prevalence
About 420 people with faimily name Šola live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 25 other places, mostly in Zagreb (145), Sesvete (40), Djakovo (40), Bjelovar (30), and in Split (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1942 in source Phone Directory of the Independent State of Croatia 1942.
