Šmuc families are Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar area and in Lepoglava.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Šmuc live in Croatia today, in 40 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and two other places, mostly in Privlaka (40), Zagreb (20), Lepoglava (20), Vinkovci (<10), and in Karlovac (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1928 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
