Šlat families are Croats and they are mostly from Ogulin area. According to some sources they are from Generalskog Stola or Gorskog Kotara. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Ogulin area and in Karlovac. In Generalski Stol in Ogulin area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Šlat.
Prevalence
About 280 people with faimily name Šlat live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 310 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 26 other places, mostly in Generalski Stol in Ogulin area (45), Zagreb (35), Karlovac (30), Duga Resa (25), and in Mreznicki Novaki (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1928 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
