Škunca families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Pag. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Pag and in Zagreb. In Novalja on the Island of Pag every seventh inhabitant had the family name Škunca.
Prevalence
About 440 people with faimily name Škunca live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 420 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 27 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Novalja on the Island of Pag (240), Zagreb (95), Rijeka (25), Zadar (25), and in Split (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
