Surname Škaro in modern Croatia

Škaro families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Sinj area. In Sultanovići in Middle Bosnia every third inhabitant had the family name Škaro.

Prevalence

About 490 people with faimily name Škaro live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 290 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 35 cities and 29 other places, mostly in Split (85), Zagreb (50), Osijek (50), Tijarica in Sinj area (40), and in Sesvete (20).

Outside Croatia

Family name Škaro (including: Skaro , Schiesaro , Scaro , Schingaro , Sciarro , Scharo , Shikaro , Shkaro and Shakarho ) is present in 27 countries worldwide. The family name "Skaro " is used by some 400 people in Morocco , about 300 in the United States , and some 60 people in Germany. "Scaro " is used by some 200 people in Argentina , about 100 in the United States , and small number of people in Ukraine. "Sciarro " is used by some 70 people in the United States.
