Škarica families are Croats and they are mostly from Omis area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Rama, Bosnia (Prozor area). In Šćipe in Rama (Bosnia) every fourth inhabitant had the family name Škarica.
Prevalence
About 810 people with faimily name Škarica live in Croatia today, in 310 households. There were 520 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 38 cities and 53 other places, mostly in Zagreb (125), Ivankovo in Vinkovci area (90), Omis (55), Sibenik (45), and in Split (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
