Škare families are Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area (Biorine). According to some sources they are from Tijarice near Sinja. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Omis area. In Biorine in Omis area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Škare.
Prevalence
About 240 people with faimily name Škare live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Split (80), Zagreb (55), Biorine in Omis area (25), Solin (20), and in Omis (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
