Šimunov families are Croats and they are mostly from Zadar. According to some sources from the Island of Ugljan (Sutomiscica). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and in Backa, Vojvodina.
Prevalence
About 130 people with faimily name Šimunov live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Zadar (80), Split (<10), Samobor (<10), Budimci in Nasice area (<10), and in Bilje in Osijek area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
