Šimac families are Croats and they are mostly from Trogir area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Zagreb. In Primorski Dolac in Trogir area every twentieth inhabitant had the family name Šimac.
Prevalence
About 700 people with faimily name Šimac live in Croatia today, in 300 households. There were 580 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 37 cities and 53 other places, mostly in Zagreb (110), Split (85), Rijeka (60), Sinj (55), and in Sibenik (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1925 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
