Šestanović families are usually Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Korcula , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Korcula and in Dubrovnik. In Lumbarda on the Island of Korcula every ninth inhabitant had the family name Šestanović.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Šestanović live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Lumbarda on the Island of Korcula (70), Split (25), Orebic on the Peljesac peninsula (20), Greda Sunjska in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (<10), and in Zagreb (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1928 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
