In Croatia, Šereš families are predominantly Croats (from Beli Manastir area ), rarely Slovenes (from Umag ), and very rarely Hungarians (also from Umag ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Beli Manastir area and in Osijek.
Prevalence
About 20 people with faimily name Šereš live in Croatia today, in 7 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in four Croatian counties, threee cities and threee other places, mostly in Umag (<5), Beli Manastir (<5), Davor in Nova Gradiska area (<5), and in Draz (<5) and Gajic (<5) in Beli Manastir area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
